Nine years. I made it nine years hanging out with the boys and girls of the LaLD community without jumping into the rabbit hole that is an RLC membership. Well here we are; the folks at Mattel have tugged at my heart strings which happen to be attached directly to my wallet. This Porsche 959 and the upcoming McLaren F1 did me in. A few clicks, a couple days, and the Porsche 959 was here.
Sure, this isn't exactly my first RLC car ever. I have a DeTomaso Mangusta on my desk sent to me by Cars4Marc and a Lambo Countach somewhere in my office by way of rj_diecast. The 959 is, however, the first RLC car I've purchased with my own membership. I never wanted one because thoughtI I would feel obligated to buy every. single. release. If they keep dropping hits like 90's supercars, I'm a buyer everytime.
The Spectraflame red shows a beautiful maroon on my computer screen, but in person it has a slight pinkish hue. I didn't want to get my nasty fingerprints all over the thing the second I got it, but I could tell the paintjob wasn't perfect. There was some sort of scuff on the passenger that I may or may not be able to clean up, upon further review. Nothing a little Snapseed Healing tool couldn't fix.
If you didn't know already, the business end of the iconic spaceship from Stuttgart opens up. In fact, the model gets shipped to you in its little acrylic case with the hatch opened up. It's. like we just opened up a tiny jewelry box on Christmas morning. Then we're blessed with those Magnus Walker inspired wheels on all four corners with dishes deeper than Chicago.
This is an exciting new wrinkle in my collecting, er, career? I'm curious to see which of the new releases I scoop up, and which ones I can help non-RLC members get added to their collections.
Starting to wonder if skipping this was a bad idea. I have the old 959 casting from the 80s.
This was an excellent one to join with. This car is excellent. Really happy we finally have a new 959 casting AND it has an opening engine compartment that's well detailed. It's epic.
Welcome to RLC, Scott. Sorry not sorry haha. Great pictures and write up. I can’t wait to open mine and take a closer look.
First rule of RLC is never talk about RLC. 😁 Never mind, that's all we do is talk about RLC!! BEAUTIFUL pictures!!
