Land of the Rising Sun-day, Tomica Time, has returned. Today we examine Tomica 32-2, the Toyota Crown 2600 Royal Saloon. This casting entered the range in December 1975, remaining until July 1979, and is good representation of Tomica of this era:
Tomica had an evolution somewhat along the lines of Matchbox - softer less precise earlier castings morphed into more exact models with sharper fine line casting detail. This model shows that progress, containing accurate proportion and no shortage of detail. Another sign of Tomica progress was the adoption of side window glazing, as seen in this model. Scale is claimed to be 1:65, likely accurate, and roughly the standard of small scale models. From all angles, one can imagine this reasonably sized somewhat plush sedan out on the road doing duty as anything from a mildly upmarket family hauler to a livery vehicle:
Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:
Front and rear have more than enough detail, the model name on the license plate being a nice typical feature:
The base is metal, which adds heft and contains plentiful identifying and technical detail:
This model is lucky enough to live in its original box:
I'm more than happy to have this model in my collection, it is the kind of "normal car on the street" category I have always liked:
