Tomica Time, Land of the Rising Sun-day, is here again. Today we examine Tomica 32-4, the Toyota Corolla. This casting entered the range in October 1983, remaining until June 1987, and is just the kind of model I like:
That being an ordinary everyday car. Super cars and high performance sports cars are fun (while fantasy castings never appealed much to me), but cars that one regularly sees on the road always interested me more, and few cars are seen more often than a Corolla. This model of an AE80 Corolla captures the design in fine style, with no doubts as to what this casting represents. The precise side tampo also adds realism. This model contains the crisp glazing, springy suspension, and snappy door action we admire in vintage Tomica. Scale is claimed to be 1:61, likely accurate, and close to the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this 80s modern angular sedan being driven by one's parents, neighbors, teachers, grandparents, friends, virtually anyone:
Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:
Front and rear have ample detail, the chromed front clip being a trend of the time:
The base is metal, which adds heft and contains technical and identifying detail:
This model is fortunate to live in its clean original box:
I'm pleased to have this model in my collection, this casting seems to be a little desirable and has more demand than some other period castings:
