[REVIEW] Tomica Toyota Celica XX 2800GT

Writer's picture: FintailFintail

Tomica Time, Land of the Rising Sun-day, has returned. Today we take a look at Tomica 33-4, the Toyota Celica XX 2800GT. This casting entered the range in April 1982, remaining until May 1986, and is a perfect example of 80s Tomica:

Tomica hit its zenith in the late 70s through mid-late 80s - precise models with multiple features and high quality paint/tampos. This casting of a Celica XX - known as a Supra elsewhere, shows it all, containing accurate proportion, fine line casting detail, and a quality multiple color paint scheme. The sunroof is a nice extra feature that adds interest and realism, and the gold button wheels add period flair. Scale is claimed to be 1:64, likely accurate, and the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this wedgy powerful for the era GT car out for a day on a high speed road or a night on the town:

Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:

Front and rear have ample detail, the two toning at rear showing quality and accuracy:

The base is metal, which adds heft and contains much identifying and technical detail:

This model is fortunate enough to live in its original box:

I'm quite pleased to have this model in my collection, I have always liked these cars and also have a silver variant. This style of Celica/Supra must have received attention when new, as HW and MBX also had castings:
