Land of the Rising Sun-day, Tomica Time, has returned. Today we take a look at Tomica 65-4, the Nissan Skyline Silhouette Formula. This casting entered the range in October 1982, remaining until May 1998, and is something very much of its time:
The R30 Skyline is about as 80s as the model name gets, and the period Super Silhouette (group 5) racing series this model represents is also quite 80s as well. This model contains ample fine line casting detail, accurate proportion, and precise tampos and decals. Nothing opens, but this model does have typical Tomica springy (with little travel) suspension and crisp glazing along with a detailed interior. Scale is claimed to be 1:68, likely accurate, and close to the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this racer zooming around a track:
Front and rear have ample detail, with the chromed grille/headlight area being a feature often seen at the time:
The base is plastic, a trend of the time, and contains ample identifying and technical detail along with showing off the widebody stance:
This model is fortunate enough to live in its original box and still have its original decal sheet:
I'm lucky to have this model in my collection, this one has some fans, and although not a high rarity, is sought after:
A similar 1:1 from nissan-global.com - this model is based on a real world racing car that competed in 1982-83:
I was not aware this already existed in the black box. I first knew about this when it was released by Tomytec under the Tomica Limited Vintage and then released I dear the Tomica Premium.
