Land of the Rising Sun-day, Tomica Time, returns once more. Today we take a look at Tomica 20-6, the Nissan Skyline GT-R. This casting entered the range in June 1990, remaining until September 1993 and is another one that is unlike most of my collection:
That again being a relatively modern casting, although this one is becoming vintage in its own right. I bought this model when it was a relatively current casting, sometime in the early-mid 90s - I remember seeing an ad for Tomica from a mail order seller, and bought a few on a whim even though I was not as avidly into collecting as I was before or later. This model of an R32 Skyline to me is closer to older Tomica than modern material - detail and proportion are generally accurate, there is fine line casting detail, and this model contains the crisp glazing, springy suspension, and snappy door action many enjoy in vintage Tomica. Scale is claimed to be 1:59, likely accurate, and not far from the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this performance model zooming around a winding road with Mt. Fuji in the background:
Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate (if not small) steering wheel:
Front and rear have pleasing detail with the rear wiper being a nice touch. One may notice this model contains some superdetailing in and out, something I did for a brief moment back in the day:
The base is plastic, and contains ample technical and identifying detail:
This model lives in its original box:
I'm more than happy to have this one, I chose it back in the day as even then these cars were popular, and I've held on to it for around 30 years:
