[REVIEW] Tomica Nissan Pulsar Coupe EXA

Writer: FintailFintail

Tomica Time, Land of the Rising Sun-day, is here again. Today we take a look at Tomica 22-3, the Nissan Pulsar Coupe EXA. This casting entered the range in April 1983, remaining until October 1987, and is a perfect representative of 1980s Tomica:

The wedgy Pulsar, sold simply as the Nissan Pulsar in the USDM - a car I kind of liked when I was a kid, and I remember by around 1990 when I was in high school, these cheerful little cars were fixtures in high school parking lots - and are almost unknown today. This model is 80s Tomica in all of its glory: nice tampo, sunroof, attractive metallic paint, along with the realistic detail and accurate proportions the brand had maybe more than ever at this time. This casting features the crisp glazing, snappy door action, and snappy door action we all expect in vintage Tomica. Scale is claimed to be 1:60, likely accurate, and close to the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this relatively cheap and cheerful 80s gem cruising down a road with period pop music on the radio:

Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:

Front and rear have ample detail:

The base is plastic, a trend of the time, and contains plenty of technical and identifying detail:

This model is lucky enough to live in its original box:

I'm pleased to have this model in my collection, one of my favorites - I like this casting enough to have all major variants in my collection (blue, red, black):

Fantastically '80s cars, boxy wedge shape, big TURBO graphics and all!

I loved those cars, not at first, but I dated a girl who had the optional "other" hatchback on her Pulsar, or would this be a kammback? Made all the difference to my opinion of the car

Those are called the "Sportbak" and are quite rare today (and were rare when new, too). I spotted this one in the wild several years ago near Seattle:
