Land of the Rising Sunday, Tomica Time, has returned. Today we examine Tomica 13-4, the Nissan Cedric 280E Brougham. This casting entered the range in July 1980, remaining until February 1984, and is a good representative of its era:
Tomica hit its stride during the malaise era, and many of its castings reflect this - both in terms of typical American malaise era castings like the Mustang II and bustleback Seville, and of JDM vehicles of the same era. Japan embraced the style of this time, with numerous vehicles having mildly ostentatious styling elements, plush American style interiors, etc. This vehicle fits that era with its angular design, quirky rear quarter window, and "Brougham" trimmings. This model features the springy suspension, crisp glazing, and snappy door action we appreciate in vintage Tomica. The blue metallic paint of this model remains vibrant, along with the silver character stripe. Scale is claimed to be 1:65, likely accurate, and roughly the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this loaded cruiser out and about in the era when 80s style was just starting to make itself known:
Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:
Front and rear have ample detail, with the front and rear light lenses - a feature I have always appreciated - being apparent from these angles:
The base is metal, which adds heft and contains technical detail and identifying data:
This model is fortunate enough to live in its original box:
I'm more than happy to have this casting in my collection, as it is a high quality casting with eye appeal:
