Land of the Rising Sunday, Tomica Time, is back for its first installment of 2024. Today we take examine Tomica 17-4, the Nissan Bluebird Turbo. This casting entered the range in January 1981, remaining until May 1984, and is something that seem familiar to those with observant eyes:
This casting is about as "80s Tomica" as it gets - gold button wheels, sunroof, tampo, high quality detail and proportion - these are what the brand was about. This version of the Bluebird was sold in other markets as the Datsun/Nissan Maxima, and this model is easily recognizable. I believe this casting also had at least one copycat. Scale is claimed to be 1:64, likely accurate, and exactly the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this sport trimmed sedan cruising down a period low speed limit highway:
Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:
Front and rear have ample detail, with the silvered headlights being a nice touch:
The base is metal, which adds heft and contains technical detail and identifying data:
This model is lucky enough to live in its original box:
I'm happy to have this model in my collection, it is a nice period piece and I remember these from when I was a kid. This casting was also sold as a Pocket Cars, and is not particularly rare today:
