Tomica Time, Land of the Rising Sun-day, is here once more. Today we examine Tomica 69-4, the Mitsubishi Pajero. This casting entered the range in December 1982, remaining until October 1993, and is an unusual period piece:

Mitsubishi had a significant interest in competition back in the day, and this rally/racing livery Pajero is a good example of this early SUV. This model also exists in standard paint schemes, but this RalliArt version has a fun look to it, and is a desirable version. The real world vehicle was a rugged and capable off-road machine, and Tomica shows that in fine style with realistic fine line casting detail and accurate proportion. The tampos on this model really set it off, and Tomica had a few other tampo'd variants with similar appeal. This model has the crisp glazing, springy suspension, and snappy door action we all enjoy in vintage Tomica. Scale is claimed to be 1:60, likely accurate, and close to the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this tough racer zooming through a dusty desert race course or slogging through some mud:

Front and rear have ample detail, the spare tire wheel matching the wheels on the car being a nice touch:

The base is plastic, a trend of the time, and contains technical and identifying detail:

This model is fortunate enough to live in its original box:

I'm quite pleased to have this model in my collection, any version of this casting in racing livery is sought after and uncommon:
