Land of the Rising Sun-day, Tomica Time, has returned. Today we examine at Tomica 23-2, the Honda S800 M. This casting entered the range in July 1980, remaining until June 1983, and is a cheerful little model:
I find this casting to be a little unusual, in that it entered the range after the real world car ended production. I assume the S800 had a cult sports car fan following along the lines of an MG or Austin-Healey etc - the small two seater ideal has always had a following. This casting also exists in many variants, showing it maybe had some demand even if in a relatively short production run. This model features the crisp glazing, snappy door action, and snappy door action we all enjoy from vintage Tomica. Scale is claimed to be 1:51, likely accurate, a little larger than the standard of small scale, but the real world car is quite dainty, and this model does not feel large even with its scale, and features some nice fine details like the fender emblems. From all angles, one can imagine this zippy little roadster cruising down a winding road:
Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:
Front and rear have more than adequate detail, the matte paint simulating the cloth top being a nice touch along with the chrome grille and its Honda "H":
The base is metal, and contains ample of technical and identifying detail:
This model is fortunate to live in its original box:
I'm more than happy to have this model in my collection, it is a pleasant piece:
