[REVIEW] Tomica Honda Civic Rally Type

Writer's picture: FintailFintail

Tomica Time, Land of the Rising Sun-day, is here again. Today we take a look at Tomica 83-2, the Honda Civic Rally Type. This casting entered the range in October 1977, remaining until 1980, and is something seldom-seen:

That being a competition version of a Honda Civic. I am not sure if any other company made a model of such a vehicle. This rally Civic is not to be confused with another similar Tomica Civic with "rally" tampos - this is a different model with different features. This casting features ample fine line casting detail, accurate proportion, and detailed decals, along with the roof rack featuring a spare tire and jerrycan. Scale is claimed to be 1:57, likely accurate, marginally larger than the standard of small scale, but this is a small real world vehicle, and the model does not present itself as significantly dainty. As expected, this model features the crisp glazing, springy suspension, and snappy door action we admire in old Tomica. From all angles, one can imagine this little racer zooming along the rally course:

Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:

Front and rear have ample detail, the foglight bank at front being a neat touch:

The base is metal, which adds heft and contains ample identifying and technical detail:

This model is lucky enough to live in its original box:

I'm more than pleased to have this model in my collection, it's a fun little car:
