Tomica Time, Land of the Rising Sun-day, is here again. Today we examine Tomica F34-2, the Chevrolet Camaro Z28. This casting entered the range in February 1983, remaining until February 1985, and is a nice representation of its era:
The F-body, love it or hate it, everyone knows what it is. These third generation cars were an ubiquitous sight in period North America, with flashy looks and usually attainable pricing, these were cool cars within reach of many people. These cars were popular to the point where I think every major diecast maker had a third gen F-body in their lineup. This variant is something unique, by the tampos a Z28-E, an export model sold primarily in Europe when new during the first few years of this generation of Camaro. The Tomica model of this car captures it in fine style, with pleasing metallic blue paint and excellent tampos to go along with the accurate fine line casting detail and proportion. This casting features the crisp glazing, springy suspension, and snappy door action we all admire in vintage Tomica. Scale is claimed to be 1:66, likely accurate, and close to the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this 80s legend cruising down a highway with Def Leppard on the cassette stereo:
Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:
Front and rear have ample detail, the rear wiper being a nice touch:
The base is plastic, a trend of the time, and contains plenty of technical and identifying detail:
This model is fortunate enough to live in its clean original box:
I'm pleased to have this model in my collection, this is a fairly desirable casting and has a lot of visual appeal:

I've never heard of this being a thing. Did the actual cars say Z28-E on the sides?
