[REVIEW] Tomica Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham

It looks like this will be my last review here, thanks to Scott Nadeau for keeping this place alive - maybe some of us will pop up on oppo now and then. This final installment is a Land of the Rising Sun-day, Tomica Time. Today we take a look at Tomica F2-1, the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. This casting entered the range in April 1976, remaining until July 1988, and is very much a period piece:

Not many vehicles represent 70s Americana more than a land yacht luxobarge, and few are in the same league as the Fleetwood Brougham. By this time, the 1973 oil crisis had created some anxiety, but there was still a customer demographic who didn't worry about fuel prices, only caring about comfort, and few cars were as smooth and isolating as a top of the line Cadillac. The Tomica casting of this large and in charge sedan has the crisp glazing, springy suspension, and snappy door action we like in vintage Tomica. Scale is claimed to be 1:77, likely accurate, a little smaller than the standard of small scale as this is a fairly massive vehicle made to fit in a normal sized box. From all angles, one can imagine this velvety beast wafting down a period 55 mph highway in cushy silence, or showing off during a night out on the town:

Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:

Front and rear have ample detail, the "Cadillac" script license plates being a nice touch:

The base is metal, which adds heft and contains technical and identifying detail:

This model is fortunate to live in a clean original box:

I'm happy to have this model in my collection, this is a nice quality casting, and has extra interest via its whitewall tires. Apparently owner-applied as I am unaware of Tomica experimenting with this feature, these were applied with care that could make one think they are a factory feature, and add a high level of realism to the model:

Great piece, beautiful color, and excellently applied whitewalls.

I thought those were really Tomica whitewalls, whoever did them did well. May have to dig out my blue version and see about upgrading to those.

I bought it like this, found it locally for a few bucks and couldn't pass it up. The whitewalls really set it off. I am unaware of Tomica offering that detail, but these are done well enough to make me think they are original. This one was good enough for me to look for an empty box to store it in, got lucky there too.

This casting was offered in that blue and several other single and two tone versions, and even as a police car or two.
