[REVIEW] Tomica BMW 320i

Tomica Time, Land of the Rising Sun-day, is here again. Today we examine Tomica F23-2, the BMW 320i. This casting entered the range in February 1986, remaining until February 1988, and is very much a period piece:

Tuned German cars gained a big presence as the 80s progressed, and this Alpina-striped BMW E21 fits that ideal. The Alpina livery on this model is precise and adds a lot of appeal to the casting, something of its time. As expected, this model features the crisp glazing, springy suspension, and snappy door action we admire in vintage Tomica. Scale is claimed to be 1:62, likely accurate, almost exactly the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this tuner car zooming down an empty Autobahn with Kraftwerk on the cassette stereo:

Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:

Front and rear have plentiful detail, the chromed front clip being a trend of the time:

The base is metal and contains identifying and technical detail - note the base is marked F43 - per my reference material F43 was issued in several colors but not in blue, where F23 (both are E21 320is) was issued in blue:

This model is lucky enough to live in a clean original box:

I'm pleased to have this model in my collection, only so many diecast E21s are out there, and the Alpina livery makes it special:
