[REVIEW] Tomica AMC Pacer

Writer: FintailFintail

Tomica Time, Land of the Rising Sun-day, has returned. Today we examine Tomica F14-1, the AMC Pacer. This casting entered the range in April 1977, remaining until September 1979, and is really cool model:

We all probably recognize the Pacer, the "wide small car" from AMC, a daring piece of design that was unconventional even from a somewhat unconventional maker. The Pacer had its own fanbase when new, but was not embraced by the mass market as it was just too different. AMC had limited resources, but did a great job with what it had, and the Pacer is probably considered to be the most unique and memorable of their cars, forever immortalized in Wayne's World. The Tomica casting of this 70s icon has the crisp glazing and springy suspension we admire in vintage Tomica, along with a detailed interior, but for whatever reason, nothing opens. Scale is claimed to be 1:64, likely accurate, exactly the standard of small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this car cruising down a period 55 mph highway or city boulevard with Disco Duck or Car Wash on the 8 track:

Front and rear have admirable detail, the "Pacer" badge in an accurate font being a nice touch:

The base is metal, which adds heft and contains technical and identifying detail:

This model is fortunate enough to live in its original box:

I'm more than pleased to have this model in my collection, it is a high quality item and is a fun piece, I have a couple of these:
