Lesney Matchbox is here again. Today we take a look at Lesney Matchbox 16b, the Super Atlantic Trailer. This model entered the range in 1960, remaining until 1964, and is something somewhat unique in the Matchbox range:
That being a model with its own place in the lineup, but was meant to pair with another vehicle. This is a trailer, not too exciting by itself, but it was made to pair with the 15a truck I reviewed in my last Matchbox installment. The truck and trailer combined would have some play value as things can be "towed" on the trailer, and this trailer having a hook lends it to possibly be used with other vehicles. As this was meant to pair with 15b, I suspect scale is likely somewhat small, perhaps in the 1:90s again. From all angles, one can imagine this heavy piece of equipment transporting massive machinery:
Front and rear have ample detail, with the tow hook adding play value, and from these angles one can see the detail on top of the trailer:
The base identifies the maker and model and shows off the 8 black plastic wheels:
And again speaking of play value, this model was intended to be paired with the 15b Prime Mover:
This model is lucky enough to live its clean original Type B3 box, likely dating to around 1960:
I'm pleased to have this model in my collection, as although it may be one of the most boring 1-75 castings, it is a quality piece and goes with the truck also in my collection. Pictured with an old dime for scale:
Finding an image of an identical trailer might be tough due to such items being used up and recycled, maybe assume a similar truck will have a similar trailer, from youtube and trucksplanet.net:
