Lesney Matchbox time is here again. Today we examine another Yesteryear, as I neglected to include this model in the last batch. This is Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Y6-2, the Bugatti Supercharged Type 35. This model entered the range in 1961, remaining until 1967, and is an excellent example of the fine quality of the Yesteryears range:
Most collectors of vintage material no doubt know of the Models of Yesteryear line, a range of vintage vehicles introduced into the Matchbox lineup in the late 50s, and made for decades. These were primarily intended to be collector's items placed on shelves etc, but were not particularly expensive, and usually had rolling wheels, so they could be used as toys. This casting of a Bugatti Type 35 grand prix car might be among the most attractive of period Yesteryears. Fine line casting detail is apparent from every angle, and the accurate style wheels set it off. Scale is claimed to be 1:48, probably accurate. From all angles, one can imagine this refined machine winning race after race during the roaring 20s:
Front and rear have excellent detail to match the rest of the model, the rear view showing the dash gauges, a nice touch:
The base identifies the model and maker, and shows the teardrop shape of the car:
This model is fortunate enough to live in its clean original Type C box:
The reverse of early Models of Yesteryear models featured a story about the vehicle:
I'm more than happy to have this in my collection, as it is really just an excellent casting. Pictured with an old time for scale:
