Lesney Matchbox time has returned. Today we take a look at Lesney Matchbox 36b, the Lambretta Scooter and Sidecar. This casting entered the range in 1961, remaining until 1966, and is something unique in the diecast world:
I can't think of many small scale models of scooters, not to mention one with a sidecar. MB made a few models of vehicles with less than 4 wheels, and some these had a sidecar like this one, which keeps the model upright. Scooters were popular in-town vehicles in Europe at the time, as they still are in many areas. This casting has accurate proportion and ample fine line casting detail as expected from a period Lesney product. Scale is likely in the 1:50s in my eyes, maybe a little larger than the standard for small scale, as it feels scaled up from many of the automotive castings, but still needed to fit in a standard box. From all angles, one can imagine this neat little rig out on the town in Rome or London or LA:
Front and rear have also have ample detail, with the number plate on the front fender being a nice touch, along with the speedometer binnacle:
The base contains maker and model information:
This model is fortunate to live its immaculate original Type D2 box, indicating production in roughly 1963:
The box has its original price tag, from a pharmacy (these often sold toys) in Penticton BC:
I'm quite happy to have this model in my collection, as this is a desirable casting, and is in as-new condition. Pictured with an old dime for scale:

Love it! I had all the lesney/matchbox sidecar motorcycles in my yute-ness, but the scooter was my favorite...MINE could fly!
That is in absolute perfect condition. Tell the truth, are you going back in time and buying these? Also, points for use of the word "binnacle" don't hear that one often,.
