Lesney Matchbox time has returned. Today we examine at Lesney Matchbox 33b, the Ford Zephyr 6. This casting entered the range in 1963, remaining until 1968, and is a model of a vehicle type I particularly enjoy:
That being of an every car, the type one's family or neighbors might own. Exotics and competition cars can be fun, but I have always liked models of regular cars seen on the street, and not much is more regular than a midrange Ford. This model contains ample fine line casting detail as expected from the brand, and also contains relatively modern features such as glazing and interior, and also has a suspension, something introduced to some new models in the range at this point in time. Scale is likely in the mid 1:60s, around the standard for small scale. From all angles, one can imagine this car in many situations from the school run to the supermarket parking lot to the daily commute to suburban boulevards to out on a vacation:
Front and rear have a good level of detail to match the rest of the model, with the mask painted silver trim, the cast-in model identifier on the bootlid being nice touches and the tow hook adding play value:
The base identifies the maker and model and shows off the grey plastic wheels:
This model is lucky enough to live its excellent original Type D2 "new model" box, indicating production in 1963:
I'm more than happy to have this model in my collection, as it presents as-new, and the wheel type marks it as a less common variety. Pictured with an old dime for scale:
