I crawl from under my rock to bring you another episode of Mild & Wild, the series where I feature a model and it's more extreme version. The so-called mild car here is the 992 generation of Porche's vaunted track toy, the 911 GT3. Unlike the standard 911 lineup, the GT3 features a naturally aspirated 4.0l flat 6 engine that produces 503hp. That power flows to the rear wheels only via the 7-speed PDK or 6-speed manual transmission. But what if you want more track car in your track car? That's where the RS steps in. While the RS does get the required power bump, it's not much over the standard GT3. No, the RS's claim to fame is downforce. Per Motor Trend, at 177 mph, the RS generates 3 times the downforce of the standard GT3. While you could visually sum up the GT3 as a "looks like a 911 with a wing," the RS is more "looks inspired by a 911." As much as I can tell, every body panel is different to that of the GT3. Heck, even the door handles are different.
The models both come courtesy of Norev. Already known for offering quite the bang for the buck, the brand has in my opinion stepped it up a notch with their 992 offerings. You get full openings as expected, save for the engine cover as that doesn't open on the real car either, and inside you get a fully flocked interior and cloth belts. The RS ups the ante with cloth door pulls and simulated stitching. Bonus kudos to Norev for getting the labeling correct on the 6-speed manual shifter of the GT3 and 7-speed PDK of the RS despite both being the same part. Negative kudos to Porshe for making the PDK shifter look like that of a manual. The GT3 and it's touring sibling have been out for about a year now, and can be found in a wide variety of colorways. The RS is just coming out, and you can expect many more colors to follow.
Great shots!
Return of the king!
