Or a small hawl if you will, for those who recall the old days of LaLD. Yesterday I attended the local bi-annual toy show (the "Inland NW Toy Show Classic" for those who may be in the region), and as I paid to get in, I had to buy something to justify the time and expense. Here are the finds:
The show was busy as usual - those who bemoan a weak economy would never know it by attending a toy show - plenty of people spending plenty of money on their passions. These shows also make me feel less dorky, as the action figure people seem to get into it much more than the diecast junkies. I'd say it was maybe 40% diecast/60% other, and to be expected, a lot of modern material (but didn't find any resellers with the HW SEC - gotta find it on a peg sooner later).
Anyway, on to the finds. I generally collect small scale, but found nothing I needed, but kind of lucked into some 1:43 material. First, the oldies - a Tekno Ford Thunderbird dating to 1956, and a Marklin 300SL dating to 1957. These are both in decent shape, the Thunderbird only showing slight aging at the windshield, and the 300SL having a few chips. These were bargains at under $10 apiece when all was said and done, and I couldn't pass them up for that - these are attractive and scarce 60+ year old castings:
And the "modern" material. A Bburago 190E in competition livery, perhaps late 80s era - this casting was made with several such liveries back in the day. Along with that, Solido Citroen Visa and Renault Fuego, with similar competition decals. These are also both in nice shape - I always liked the Fuego so I had to do it, and the Visa was neat enough to come along for the ride. The same seller had several flats of ~1:43 material - I am somewhat thinking I should have bought more as I probably could have averaged no more than $5 apiece if I did, but I don't collect it specifically, and only have so much room (he had numerous nice loose mint Gama, Polistil, etc). Hopefully someone else snagged some. I am happy with these, they have a fun 80s theme and the price was right:
That is all.
I like that Gullwing!
Nice stuff! I find that as my eyes get older, unlike the rest of me (lol), larger scales are becoming more attractive
