Hot Sixty 4th: Unboxing the Datsun and Nissan trucks

Tomytec sometimes uses a bigger box if the model is a special release. However this is the first time they release them in this specific size. Tomytec collectors would notice that this package is a completely new design unlike any packaging previously released.

What you will see inside the Nissan box is a square plastic with areas molded to fit the truck and some rocks accessories. This is the same with the Datsun since both have identical packaging and features.

Also inside is a couple of inserts and one of them clearly identifies that the Tomica Limited Vintage is in its 20th Anniversary. Hooray!

At the front both trucks looked almost identical except the left has a Nissan badge while the right has a Datsun badge on the grill. The black truck is said to be the last pickup sold under the Datsun brand.

Both have insert headlights, simulated chrome surrounding the windshields but strangely no side mirrors. Also the Datsun is RHD while the Nissan is LHD which is probably for the anorth American market.

The side besides the vehicle graphics looked almost identical. Notice that most trucks during that period had steel wheels are they are marketed as commercial vehicle and simplicity is the key to reduce cost.

The left truck has the Nissan brand on the tailgate and notice below in small letters the Datsun name is printed on it. My guess is this truck came out during the time the Datsun name was being phase out. This also comes with a bumper. The right truck has the Datsun brand on the tailgate but does not have a bumper.

You may wondered about the rocks that came with these trucks. It so happened that these trucks are equipped with new feature that you can show off by placing them on top of these rocks.

Instead of the usual suspension where showing it on a video makes more sense, this new feature would shine better on a photo where you can move the axles like a seesaw which gives a better illustration of the truck’s suspension and weight.

Here is a photo of the real truck borrowed from the web.
