Hot Sixty 4th: Porsche Transporter review 1

Writer: TJ MatchtheboxTJ Matchthebox

This vintage looking artwork caught my eyes years ago when Schuco was releasing their 1/64 edition of their Renntransporter Porsche.

The design of the box where you slide out the sleeve from a box reminds me of the packaging style of the Lesney Matchbox King Size during the 60#.

The model is wrapped in a white tissue like paper.

This casting is based on the Mercedes Benz o317 Renntransporter Porsche. This was first delivered to Porsche in 1967.

The body is made of metal while the base is plastic. It has rubber tires and the side has a door for the driver but it does not open.

The classic Mercedes emblem on the top of the grill looks really good for a 1/64. The Porsche logo is very detail as well. It has inserted plastic headlights. The wipers are individual parts as well. The side mirrors are not separate but molded with the body. This prevented the casting from Looking realistic but it avoids any anxiety of the mirrors breaking.

The roof has 3 windows where you can partially see the car inside.

The rear has painted taillights and opening double doors made of plastic but may be difficult to open. There is a notch on the top center of the left door in which I used a very small screw driver.

Looking inside the 2 sides of the wall has some sort of pillar like structure near the entrance. I do not think those are present in the actual truck as it is design to screw the base with the body. I would rate it a 2 for this design.

See the 4 screws on the base.

But wait, where is the ramp?

There are no ramps included so there is no way to display it loading a car.

Here is what it actually looks like. (Photo from supercarnostalgia.com)

Comparing it to the actual truck there are very little differences. But I did noticed the missing 2 turn signal lights located on the grill.

To be continued.
