When it comes to 1/43 scale, most of these models were made by brands that are not US based. That’s probably because most US collectors are more into 1/64. Now Mattel thru Hot Wheels began releasing their 1/43 scale in 2023 as a Target exclusive.
While most 1/43 came in either acrylic boxes or cardboard window display, the packaging for Hot Wheels looks more like a big clamshell.
Before you decide to cut open the side of the packaging, you can simply peel off the transparent stickers on the sides or simply use a blade. And when it’s time to put it away you simply snap it shut like the protecto pack used to protect your blister card. Not my ideal package design as it makes it bulky.
I recently acquired this last month at a Target store although this was in the mix 3 release back in 2024.
REVIEW
This model has diecast body, comes with lens inserted lights, very good detail with an off-road equipped look like custom off road bumpers, camping gear accessories and off road rubber tires. There are no opening parts.
The chassis is made of metal as well and has detail including a skid plate.
Looking at the interior, the steering wheel and the dashboard is close to the 1:1 truck photo that was borrowed from the web.
At a cost of $25, I’ve seen some complains on the web from collectors specially if you compare it to the price of some 1/24 models.
I’ve collected several different brands of 1/43 and prices can range from $10 to $390 and the price reflects the quality of the model’s detail. To me Hot Wheels price is a reasonable price for the quality they provide.
