The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Black Series is one of those cars that ONLY looks good in black, if you ask me. Tons of carbon fibre run throughout the body, but again in my opinion, clashes with the other color options like orange and silver. Of course, I'm not anywhere near the tax bracket that Mercedes is targeting, so they don't care what I have to say. Thankfully, I found one that I can afford. Even better: I scooped it up during BLACK Friday last year.
This 1/18 model of the most insane AMG GT comes to us from Norev. Triple black in fact, or is it quadruple with it being a Black Series? I prefer the OG AMG GT; I feel like it's a car that looks better in a suit than... a bunch of vents, aero bits, and then a few more vents. This model wasn't on my radar until it somehow made its way into my shopping cart during Black Friday late last year. Towards the tailend of the DriveTribe era of LaLD, Norev's were popping up left and right with high praise from the locals. Here's to carrying on that tradition.
One thing I'd like to get out of the way: this model is FILTHY! I had no idea until I started editing these pics I took. It seems like there is a greasy film all over this thing, and it needs a good bath. With that said, don't be repulsed by how weird the paint looks in some of these photos. I'm starting to second guess this "black paint is the best paint" idea...
This is a bonafide diecast bodied model with opening parts and steerable wheels, a.k.a. the best type of model. The hood opens up, albeit on dogleg style hinges, to review the huge bit of plastic that covers that huge 4.0L bi-turbo V8 that pumps out 720hp. Let me spell that out for you: Seven Hundred and Twenty Horse Power. Also, damn that misaligned tri-star badge is going to drive me nuts...
Aside from that little badge, there are a ton of great details packed into this tiny Norev. Carbon fibre decals are laid out neatly on the roof panel and side blades of the massive rear wing. Oh, there's more carbon on the rocker panels too, and hood vent surrounds. I'm willing to bet there's even some carbon weave on places I haven't even found yet. The headlights are intricate and shine like jewelry. The black wheels are set off nicely by a machined trim ring. This thing looks incredible!
Great pictures and write up. The AMG GT Black Series is one of my favorite new supercars. I’ve had the chance to see a couple in person and I love finding all the carbon and details.
Hell yeah!!! I love that V8-beast so much.
